Kitchen Floor Tiles

CHOOSING THE PERFECT KITCHEN FLOOR TILES:

The humble kitchen deserves a loving floor tile design. This is where all the hard work goes on behind the scenes. More of us are celebrating the glory of this room as the hub of the house.

This is where dinners get lovingly prepared, early morning breakfasts rushed & copious amounts of thirst-quenching teas & coffees get consumed. Who doesn’t ever go into the kitchen these days?

Questions to help you decide on your kitchen floor tiles

Firstly, let’s start with a few simple questions to help choose your perfect kitchen floor tile.

How big is your kitchen?

  • Are we talking galley style kitchen, long & thing?
  • Or perhaps it is more bedsit in style?
  • Maybe it’s more compact & square in shape?
  • Heavens above if you are lucky enough to have a full-blown kitchen complete with island.

A small kitchen will benefit from a slightly larger tile to help exaggerate the perspective to the eye.

Laying a tile to suit the shape & layout of your floor can actually make an enormous difference to the visual feel & perspective by helping to deceive the eye into believing the room to be bigger than it is.

Particularly on the floor, laying tiles diagonally or in a herringbone pattern can really bring home the illusion of space.

How bright is your kitchen?

A kitchen lacking in natural daylight will benefit from a lighter colour. Unlike with your wall, we wouldn’t necessarily recommend a high gloss or polished tile unless you were prepared to take on the consequences of potential slip hazards.

A coffee spillage here, a glass of wine there, the kids spilling milk from their milkshake or cereal, or Nigella Lawson spilling some boiling water from the pan on the stove, they are all potential trip and slip issues.

What colour is your cabinetry?

Your floor tiles will need to complement your tones & colour scheme. Some of you might be going for two different colours of cabinetry (a cream up top, a grey down below).

Not only will your floor tile need to complement both these colours but it also needs to be in harmony with your worktop.

It’s amazing how different shades there are out there and how the colour of a tile will change when put alongside another colour. There are so many hues to match, it isn’t as easy as it might first sound. That’s where we come in.

Kitchen Wall Tiles

CHOOSING THE BEST KITCHEN WALL TILES:

Kitchen wall tiles are the optimal way to add style to your cooking area. A simple feature splashback or defined border will add depth to your drab walls.

Things to think about when choosing kitchen wall tiles.

Let’s start with a few simple questions. Before thinking about the design, we need to take into consideration the size and layout of the area.

Feel free to take notes and bring these to the showroom. Our stores are managed with staff who can expertly guide you to the best tiles. No question is too silly or too complicated.

How do you make a small kitchen look bigger?

A small kitchen will benefit from a slightly larger tile to help exaggerate the perspective to the eye. Laying them in a grid pattern (creating vertical & horizontal lines) will help deceive the eye into creating a bigger looking room.

Laying tiles diagonally is another trick which can help enlarge the look of the room. Another option is laying your tiles in a herringbone pattern.. possibly for the more adventurous homeowner but can result in an absolutely stunning statement finish.

How do you make a dull kitchen brighter?

A kitchen lacking in natural daylight will benefit from a lighter colour & quite possibly you will need to look at opting for a gloss finish to help bounce whatever little natural daylight there is around the room. This will help to brighten things up no end.

Furthermore, tiles will need to complement your tones & colour scheme. They will also need to work in conjunction with your worktop.

Remember that if you tile under your wall cabinets there will be a certain amount of shading which will darken the tone of your tile. Don’t forget to check this out when you take one of our sample tiles home with you.

What type of wall tile is best in the kitchen?

One type of tile to steer away from would be the sort with a rough finish, such as a brick slip tile. This sort of roughness will capture dust, dirt & grime as well as rip your yellow duster to shreds leaving yellow fluff all over your wall.
